EFTA Submits Formal Objection to Fife Council’s Taxi Fare Proposal
The East Fife Taxi Association has now lodged its full objection to Fife Council’s proposed 2025/26 taxi fare scale.
The proposal put forward by the Council is not adequate to sustain drivers, operators, or the wider public service that taxis provide across Fife.
Over the last week we have encouraged drivers and operators to have their say.
As of the deadline, 40 individual objections were submitted to the Regulation and Licensing Committee,
alongside our Association’s formal submission. This level of response sends a clear signal that the trade does not consider the proposals fit for purpose.
The objections raised across the trade were consistent:
- The proposed increases are too small to cover rising operating costs.
- Vehicle prices, garage labour, insurance, fuel and Council fees have all increased sharply.
- Low fares undermine driver retention and make recruitment extremely difficult.
- There is concern that operators will be forced to cut back on maintenance to stay on the road, risking safety and more test failures.
Alongside these objections, we have submitted our own updated representation to the Committee.
This includes data from our August–September survey of local drivers and operators,
as well as references to the ongoing petition open to licence holders across Fife.

We will continue to update members on the outcome of the Committee’s deliberations.
Whatever the final decision, we will continue representing the interests of East Fife’s drivers and operators
and pushing for a sustainable, safe and properly valued taxi service for the public.
