Fife Council has made it clear that there is a growing need for more Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) across the region, particularly in rural and underserved areas like North East Fife. With accessibility becoming a key priority in local transport planning, licensed taxi and private hire operators are being encouraged to explore ways to improve availability for disabled passengers. However, the reality on the ground is that very few WAVs are currently in service, and many operators face practical or financial barriers to operating one.
This short survey aims to gather honest feedback from drivers and operators licensed with Fife Council. Whether you run a single vehicle or manage a small fleet, your views will help identify what’s really holding back WAV uptake, and what kind of support or incentives might actually make a difference. The results will be shared with the relevant authorities to help shape future policy, funding opportunities, and licensing support.
