Uber Fife launches CrowdJustice appeal over licensing decision

Uber Fife has launched a CrowdJustice fundraiser to support a legal challenge to Fife Council’s decision to grant Uber a booking-office licence.

At the licensing hearing, more than 400 objections were ruled invalid and 25 objectors who had been invited to speak were not allowed to present their case. The application was then approved under delegated powers.

The legal challenge will examine whether Uber’s own application was valid and whether the objections were lawfully rejected. The CrowdJustice case page says Fife Council has confirmed Uber applied electronically, but cannot produce the statutory determination governing electronic submissions.

These are serious questions about how licensing rules are applied. They deserve proper examination, with the evidence made public and the same standards applied to every applicant and objector.

Uber Fife is a campaign involving volunteers, local taxi operators and concerned residents. It is separate from EFTA, which is sharing the fundraiser so members and the wider public can understand what is being proposed.

The campaign is seeking an initial £5,000 to fund legal work by Nisbets Solicitors, with potential costs reaching £20,000.

Read the case details and support the fundraiser on CrowdJustice. More background is available on Uber Fife’s legal-action page and its About page.
