East Fife Taxi Fare Survey Results Submitted to Fife Council

The East Fife Taxi Association (EFTA) has submitted the results of our recent survey to the Fife Council Regulation and Licensing Committee as part of the 2025 Taxi Fare Review.

The survey ran from 15 August to 1 September 2025 at 00:01. We collected 44 responses from licensed drivers and operators in East Fife using Google Forms. The survey was promoted on eastfife.scot, the EFTA Facebook page, and in driver and operator WhatsApp groups.

Key findings

  • 84.1% of respondents support a fare increase in the 2025 review.
  • Preferences vary on structure, including raising the flag rate, adjusting yardage, or a combination.
  • Common cost pressures include insurance, repairs and maintenance, vehicle purchase under the 5 year rule, fuel, and council licensing fees.
  • A minority oppose an increase, citing passenger affordability and the risk of reduced demand.

Fare review timeline

  • 12 August 2025 – Committee agreed to begin the review process
  • 9 September 2025 – Committee considers proposed fare changes
  • October to November 2025 – Public consultation on the proposal
  • 3 December 2025 – Deadline for the new fare scale to take effect

Caveats

This was a voluntary survey rather than a scientific poll. Results reflect the views of respondents who chose to take part. While there is clear support for a rise overall, opinions differ on how any change should be structured.
