East Fife Taxi Association

About the East Fife Taxi Association

The East Fife Taxi Association (EFTA) exists to support, represent and advocate for taxi and private hire operators across East Fife. We are a trade-led group run by working professionals who understand the pressures and realities of the job, and are committed to making the industry fairer, safer and more sustainable for everyone involved.

EFTA is led by Linda Holt and James Glen, both experienced operators and long-time campaigners. Together, they are directors of Big Yellow Taxi Co and St Andrews Taxis, and have built a reputation for standing up for communities and challenging bad policy at every level.

A Proven Track Record

Linda previously served as a Fife Councillor for East Neuk and Landward, giving her first-hand insight into how local authorities operate. She understands the layers of local authority governance, the role of officers, and the decision-making process inside Fife Council. This experience means she knows exactly how to navigate the system, who to speak to, and how to get things done.

She is also well known for her work with Scotland Against Spin, where her campaigning led to a change in national planning policy on wind turbine developments near communities.

Both James and Linda led the Mossmorran Action Group, spearheading a high-impact grassroots campaign to hold ExxonMobil accountable for emergency flaring at its petrochemical plant. Their work, which included documenting over 500 testimonies from affected residents, directly contributed to ExxonMobil investing £153 million in upgrading the plant’s technology to reduce harm to surrounding communities.

This is the same experience and determination they now bring to EFTA.

Why We’re Here

We re-formed EFTA because we believe the taxi trade in Fife is being held back by outdated, arbitrary policies and a lack of proper engagement with those on the ground. From rigid vehicle age limits to poor timing of annual inspections, we are challenging the decisions that make it harder for operators to stay in business and serve the public.

EFTA is not here just to complain. We bring solutions. Our goal is to build a better working relationship between the taxi trade and Fife Council, based on fairness, evidence and common sense.

Our Approach

We combine professional expertise with grassroots engagement. We:

  • Work with drivers and operators directly to understand local needs
  • Campaign on the issues that matter most to the trade
  • Push for policy changes that reflect reality, not bureaucracy
  • Engage with councillors, committees and the public in good faith

Whether you are a one-car operator or a larger base, if you’re working in the East Fife area, we’re here to represent your interests.
